A Tottenham landlord has been fined \u00a310,000 after repeatedly failing to license a privately rented property.<\/p>\n
The property in question was said to have multiple issues of disrepair, while the landlord was repeatedly warned about his responsibilities and the requirement to license the property by council officers.<\/p>\n
The landlord was fined despite putting in a last-minute application, however the council noted the property\u2019s long-standing unlicensed rental history, poor conditions, and the landlord\u2019s harassment of the remaining tenant, who had mental health needs.<\/p>\n
Cllr Sarah Williams, cabinet member for housing and planning and deputy leader of the council, said: \u201cLandlords in Haringey are legally required to meet their responsibilities. This case sends a strong signal \u2013 our officers will pursue the facts and take action where standards are breached.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u201cWe simply will not tolerate unsafe, unlicensed rental homes. Every resident deserves decent, secure housing, and where landlords fall short, we\u2019ll step in to protect our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n
Officers first visited the property after receiving multiple tip-offs that it was being used as an HMO.<\/p>\n
Since November 2022, in the East of Haringey, it is a legal requirement to license properties rented to single families under the council\u2019s selective property licensing scheme.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
