Landlords and letting agents operating in Wales are being reminded to check their Rent Smart Wales licence renewal dates, with penalties of up to \u00a35,000 for non-compliance as the scheme enters its tenth year.<\/p>\n

The National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA) has issued guidance warning that many licence holders who registered during the initial 2016 grace period are now approaching their second renewal cycle. The Rent Smart Wales scheme was introduced in November 2015, with a one-year registration window for property professionals to comply.<\/p>\n

Enforcement action<\/h2>\n

Since the scheme\u2019s implementation, enforcement has resulted in 355 prosecutions of landlords and agents, with \u00a353,600 recovered through Rent Repayment Orders, according to figures cited by the NRLA.<\/p>\n

The organisation stated: \u201cMany will now be approaching \u2013 or may already have passed \u2013 your second renewal date.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Licence renewal costs range from \u00a3257 to \u00a3327, depending on the application method. Early renewal discounts are available for those who submit applications at least 42 days before their licence expires.<\/p>\n

Compliance requirements<\/h2>\n

To renew a licence, holders must demonstrate completion of mandatory training covering legal obligations and responsibilities under Welsh housing law. Licence holders can verify their renewal date by accessing their Rent Smart Wales account dashboard.<\/p>\n
