The government has refused to carry out a root-and-branch review into County Court failures, going against recommendations made by the Commons Justice Committee.<\/p>\n
Instead, the government said a focus on digitisation and other modernisations should help improve the process.<\/p>\n
The Committee described the County Court and \u201cdysfunctional\u201d following years of \u201cchronic underfunding\u201d.<\/p>\n
For landlords the court system has been a subject of frustration when trying to evict rogue tenants, as delays mean they are losing out on many months of rent.<\/p>\n

David Smith, partner at Spector Constant & Williams, said: \u201cThe government\u2019s response feels more like an effort to keep the lights on than a real attempt to fix deep-rooted issues in the civil justice system.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile digitisation has its place, it cannot by itself address the fundamental resourcing and structural problems the County Court faces.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the Renters\u2019 Rights Bill set to increase workloads further, there\u2019s an urgent need for more decisive action to build confidence and ensure the system can cope with what\u2019s coming.<\/p>\n
