Plans for a new housing development that will deliver 79 homes in Pelton while increasing biodiversity by at least 10% have been approved by councillors.<\/p>\n
Housebuilder Bellway is set to build a mix of two, three, and four-bedroom homes off Station Lane in the County Durham village, including 12 affordable homes. Among the property styles planned there will be nine bungalows.<\/p>\n
Mark Gabriele, head of land for Bellway Durham, said: \u201cOur new development in Pelton has been thoughtfully planned with sustainability and inclusivity at its heart, so we are very pleased that our proposals for this site have received approval from the planning committee.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur strategy for increasing biodiversity at Pelton is wide ranging, going beyond what is required by legislation. This reflects Bellway\u2019s strategic focus on looking after the planet and its wildlife and is part of creating a healthy, sustainable community where future residents will enjoy living.<\/p>\n

As part of the planning agreement, it is expected that the company will contribute nearly \u00a3600,000 to local facilities including schools, healthcare and open spaces.<\/p>\n
The development itself will include two acres of public open space and Bellway will carry out improvements to the public footpath that leads to The Wynd housing estate.<\/p>\n
Biodiversity measures include the planting of native trees and shrubs and the installation of bat and bird boxes. Hedgehog holes will be added to fences to create \u2018hedgehog highways\u2019 to ensure hedgehogs can move between gardens without getting trapped.<\/p>\n
Two-thirds of the properties \u2013 53 in total \u2013 will be built to be more accessible and adaptable for those with reduced mobility, with features such as step-free access and wider doorways. All the properties will benefit from electric vehicle charging points.<\/p>\n
It is anticipated that work will start on site in early 2026, while the first homes are due to be released for sale in late spring or early summer 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
