Durham County Council has taken charge of managing a landlord\u2019s portfolio after slapping him with a two-year ban.<\/p>\n
Kamran Adil failed to reach minimum housing standards across his portfolio, which comprised of 15 properties after he sold 11 prior to a tribunal ruling.<\/p>\n
He then failed to engage with the first-tier property tribunal process, while he abstained from licensing eight rental properties located within selective licensing areas.<\/p>\n
The council will take charge of the portfolio for the two-year period, though only two of the 15 are occupied.<\/p>\n
Joe Quinn, Cabinet member for planning, investments and assets, said: \u201cApplying for a banning order was not a decision we took lightly but it reflects just how serious Kamran Adil\u2019s offences are.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope this serves as a stark warning to other landlords and letting agents of what can happen if they fail to manage their properties to the standards required.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd while this is a last resort, we won\u2019t hesitate to take such action again if needed.\u201d<\/p>\n
The local authority took him to court in 2023 and 2024 after he failed to act on improvement notices, while in December 2024 the council served a Notice of Intent to seek the banning order.<\/p>\n
